Mungrisdale Recreation Room

November 1924 to 8th March 2004

The decision to replace the current hall was taken in the latter part of 2000 and in February 2001 a project sub committee was formed with the aim of preparing a an application for funding from the National Lottery (now renamed the Community Fund).

Unfortunately, the foot & mouth outbreak hit our valley very seriously and it was  to be November 2001 before the project committee could move forward.  Apart from preparing the bid to the Community Fund, a public consultation  exercise was organized with questionnaires, and an open evening to view the  initial plans.

Right checking the contract with the architect, the quantity surveyor and the builder, Ian Currie. 26th February 2004

Fund raising continued throughout the summer of 2002 and a great deal of work was put in to finalising the application to the Community Fund. This was submitted early October 2002 and we were extremely pleased to receive confirmation in March 2003 that we had been awarded almost the maximum grant. We were successful in obtaining other grants and following a tough tendering process, we were finally able to commence the project on 8th March 2004.
